Editorial Review:

Product Description:
As Claus Riedel first revolutionized stemware thirty years ago so has his grandson Maximilian taken the benchmark shapes of Riedel Vinum and revolutionized stemware for the next generation. Chicly casual the tumbler-as-wine-stem has been fine-tuned to enhance the pleasure of your favorite varietals. Aesthetically pleasing yet dishwasher safe these wine tumblers are ideal for everyday. Made in Germany of lead-free crystal. Gift boxed in sets of 2. 4 7/8'H 21 1/8 oz.

Amazon.com:
Founded in 1756, Austria’s Riedel Crystal is the world’s premier manufacturer of wine glasses and has always catered to the fine wine connoisseur. However, these wine tumblers are part of the company’s first attempt at producing a lower priced wine glass for casual entertaining. Like Riedel’s prestigious Vinum series of glasses, these tumblers are specifically designed for a particular grape varietal and still maintain their ability to enhance the flavors and aromas of the wines they were intended for. The only difference is that the tumblers are missing their stems, making them slightly less delicate to handle, more modern in appearance, and easier to fit in smaller cabinets, mini bars, picnic baskets, and the dishwasher.

The O series of glasses are made of machine-made of non-leaded glass. The shape of the two glasses in this set is specifically recommended for young, full-bodied red wines with high tannin and extract, such as Cabernet or Merlot. Each glass holds 21-1/8 ounces of wine, stands 4-7/8 inches tall, and is completely dishwasher-safe. --Cristina Vaamonde

Customer Reviews
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Look Ma, no stems!
This is a regular Riedel varietal wine glass with the stem removed. We use them daily and like them because they take up less space in the dishwasher and seem somewhat less likely to tip over on the table. A friend thinks they are too fragile but we have lost only two in two years, one to my mishandling and another the cat batted off the counter.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - More fragile then eggshells
Both of these glasses are now gone. The glass is thinner then eggshells. If you use them then save them for special occasions only because they are more fragile then any other glass I've ever seen.

I replaced them with Libby's. Better price, set of 4 and better glass.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Perfect for Champagne in a Stimless Glass!!
I wanted something for drinking champagne without the fragility of a stemmed champagne flute. These are perfect! Of course, they are still delicate, but not as fragile as a typical champagne flute. Much better for parties. Lower center of gravity should assure fewer accidents.

Also, if you are a fan of barley wines, this is a perfect sized beer glass for enjoying those VERY strong brews. As with ALL Reidel glassware, it is not inexpensive, but very high quality.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Nice
These are nice glasses - a little big for my hand - I always feel like it could easily slip out. I like the stemless;, but it is very thin glass. We haven't broken any, but we do feel as if they would break easily. We ordered 4 and use them for "every day", but probably will not order more.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Don't actually own these, but ...
Don't actually own these, but saw them when looking for other Riedel glasses and wanted to comment.

The purpose of the long stem on a martini glass is to provide a way to hold the glass without warming it with your fingers.

That's because martinis (real martinis - not "chocolatinis" or "tunatinis" or "bazookajoetinis" or whatever comes next) are meant to be sipped very, very cold.

The design undercuts this two ways: it's too large (over 8 ounces) and unless ... Read More
